MORE ABOUT THE FUTURE CLINIC
In July 2018 I decided to open The Future Clinic.
I retired from my consultant role with the NHS in 2017 after 33 years. I had a year travelling, thinking, and meeting new people from different cultures and social positions. Indeed, I had a great year, had loads of fun, and made many new friends. When I got home I realised my passion for developing better clinical resources, research, and trying to understand conditions like Fibromyalgia remained. My travels had, if anything, fuelled my drive to do this.
My background is in psychology and neuroscience, but after meeting thousands of people with Fibromyalgia it is clear to me that we need to develop a broader scientific paradigm to be able to help those that suffer this debilitating condition. I believe that if we can find a genuine understanding of fibromyalgia we will open the door to understanding many other conditions. This interest has taken me on a fascinating scientific journey, from microbiology, virology, neuroscience, genetics, epigenetics, mathematics, evolutionary theory, threat perception, sensory processing, social and anthropological studies to how our spiritual and mental health can affect the immune system.
The Future Clinic aims to bring all this science together, delivered with the simple human qualities of kindness, curiosity, creativity and a spirit of collaboration. The clinic is now a group of like minded and talented clinicians with different background, but the same passion. We want to work differently and we want to develop our clinic with you, in collaboration. Watch us in discussion and get to know the team, join in with your comments, ideas and suggestions.
MOLECULAR TO THE SPIRITUAL
THE FUTURE CLINIC
We want to offer something different. Our approach helps you to explore your condition fully, to feel informed enough to consider the scientific evidence about fibromyalgia and feel an active part of treatment.
Understanding the importance of good information, we consider everything from the potential role of chronic infections, like Lyme Disease, through to the ways in which environmental, psychological and emotional experiences, influence the neurology that underpins fibromyalgia.
This is a view that spans from the molecular to the spiritual and we believe trying to achieve wellbeing at all levels, leads to the best results. In most cases there is a link between all these factors and we hold to the view that conditions like fibromyalgia have multiple causes.
