FIBROMYALGIA AND LYME DISEASE

Many of you will know that there is a big debate at the moment regarding the potential role infections and co-infections such as  Borrelia (Lyme Disease) play in the genesis of Fibromyalgia. We are trying to find out how commonly people with fibromyalgia are infected with the bacteria which cause Lyme disease and other certain viruses.

Our first research project will be taking a cohort of people with Fibromyalgia and running a number of blood and genetics tests to investigate this important question.  If you are interested in hearing more or participating please get in touch.

We are also about to start a smaller project looking at the potential relationship between Autism, EDS, and Fibromyalgia.  Over the last few years more and more people have observed a possible link and we are keen to investigate this systematically.  If you have a diagnosis of Fibromyalgia and/or EDS, and have a close relative with Autism or ASD, we'd be very interested to hear from you.

We are especially delighted to be working with Bridges for Learning Autism Diagnostic and Support Service here on the Isle of Wight.  This is fascinating work for us and we are privileged to be part of The Bridges for Learning multidisciplinary team assessing young people for potential Autistic Spectrum Disorders.
